Nokia N97 Updates via Software Update

Posted by DaMuffinMan | 6:43 AM | ,

Over the last few days Nokia's made a couple of updates available to N97 users.

One of those updates include a 'C: Phone memory update', which is a definite must have for all N97 users as it miraculously manages to free up memory on your minuscule c:\ so you can install more applications on it (presumably meant for N-Gage and the new Nokia Maps 3.1). Some users have reported getting 40+ MB of free space (in total) after installing the update, so remember to get yours now!

You can access the 'Software Update' application by going to Main Menu >> Apps.

Installing Nokia widgets on the 5800 and N97

Apart from logging in to the OVI Store and getting apps and widgets from there, there's plenty of widgets and apps out in the wild from forums as well as this site. Simply download the widget and save it on your desktop, connect your Nokia 5800/N97 to your PC in "PC Suite" mode, and drag the widget or app to the image of your mobile phone. It's that simple.

Alternatively, you could send it via Bluetooth to your phone if you find it more convenient. Once it's sent, open it "Messaging" under your phone and check your Inbox; the received file should be located there.

Just to let everyone know that if they have questions/problems for me, I can be reached by email (kenneth [at] s60dev [dot] com) or via Twitter (http://www.twitter.com/damuffinman).

An additional update: Tube Map v0.2 will hopefully be out at the end of this month. Expect a major UI change, with the introduction of the STEW interface.

S60v5 Themes

Although not affiliated with me, here's a helpful link for all Symbian S60v5 users as well as S60v3 users. If you feel that the theme that comes with the Nokia 5800 is a bit dull, then you should check it out - theme developer PiZero has quite a few high quality themes now compatible and optimised for the S60v5 platform, so it's definitely worth taking a look. Good news is that they won't cost you anything, so get downloading!

Welcome

Hello all, it's me back at blogging again after a long break...on a slightly different topic. Now that I'm developing applications and widgets optimised for Symbian a.k.a Nokia's S60 v5 platform, I'll be providing downloads for everyone on the newest bunch of widgets or apps that I've created here on S60 Developer.

Oh and for those who know me as xtream from the Sony Ericsson P1i Blog or the Nokia N82 Blog, welcome back.
